02 Statewide Economic Development Infrastructure Plan

OPPORTUNITIES

Desired Future At both the State and community levels, progressive economic development plans should focus on maintaining existing systems, exceeding State and federal pollution removal standards, and fostering a robust environmental protection economy. Public and Private Partnership Developing public and private partnerships can foster shared staffing and training opportunities. These partnerships also enable the sharing of resources, including funding and essential commodities such as water and energy. Investment in Non-Point Discharge Protection Continued aggressive investment and incentives in non-point discharge protection are crucial for sustainable development. Community Development Plans Economic development projects, asset management strategies, and projected population changes are all components of a comprehensive plan that will support

water quality and treatment systems. Education and Operations Programs

Education and operations programs, including technical school programs and on-the-job training, are supported by State initiatives to ensure a well-trained workforce. Regionalization Regionalizing wastewater treatment facilities can incorporate more advanced treatment methods, reduce overall treatment and capital size requirements, and centralize treatment management and staffing. This approach allows smaller communities to attract and manage larger industrial wastewater loads.
