CROSS-INFRASTRUCTURE POSSIBILITIES
NATURAL GAS Natural gas expansion could lead to increased electrical grid capacity because natural gas and electric can be used interchangeably for some energy demands, such as heating. Additional natural gas pipelines create electric right-of-way opportunities and natural gas availability provides the source for generation stations.
ROADS Transmission lines and public roadways being built together for road right‑of‑way would improve transmission line infrastructure. Increased charging stations and networks are essential for electric vehicles to efficiently travel on the road network.
WATER Hydroelectric dams have a long history in South Dakota for power generation and water use. Water source improvements will create ideal conditions for power generation.
BROADBAND New technologies will play a role in the utility industry moving forward. Data acquisition and analysis, along with automated controls, will increase demand on broadband systems.
